Irredentist etymology. Not sure if this is surprising but irredentist is a fairly recent word of Italian origin.
Irredentist etymology — trying to claw back and restore old meanings. The irredentist etymologist would not attempt to make archaic words fashionable in today’s usage, but restore old meanings to still current words. Insist that awful be use for awesome, etc.
